During a pre-test for black belt, I performed a nunchaku kata with wooden nunchaku after I had finished all of my other test requirements and I was very sweaty. At the end of the kata, both ends of the nunchaku were in my right hand and I had to release one end in a jabbing motion then bring it around to catch it in the same hand. I was about a foot away from the judge's table right in front of Carrie Avian. When I made the move, instead of just one end leaving my hand both ends came out...

Goshinjutsu draws much from the traditions of the martial arts that have come before it, with particular influence from Shotokan’s founder, Master Gichin Funakoshi. His humility and pursuit of the perfection of character above the glorification of violence is the cornerstone of all good martial arts. Goshinjutsu combines the honorable ideals of Master Funakoshi with modern Christian values and this is the result: 1. We exist as people among other people. We should seek empathy and concern for...

Mathena-Ryu Goshinjutsu is not a new style, so much as a new way of teaching. It is the unraveled, unbiased art of protecting oneself using techniques formed by the student, instead of the instructor. Its two core training values are learning broad principles of combat which can be used universally, in contrast to techniques which can only be used in certain situations, and learning and devising techniques based on response to the opponent's action, rather than separating the two. Goshinjutsu...

I started my training with Grandmaster Graham in 1979 after the Warriors Institute (located at the Browns Mills F.D.) had closed down. I was 9 years old and met him when he was teaching at my grade school (Denbo School). I immediately felt that this is where I wanted to be. After a short time attending his class at the school, he invited me to begin training at his house on Phillips Ave. The basement days were the absolute best. My fondest memories are training during those times. The...

Tiger ManCatt was created by Donald Kinnie in the beginning of 2008. He was intended to be an over-the-top Karate Instructor character for webisode infomercials promoting his Instructional video series. “Don’t live your life in slo-mo, make your home a dojo!” Some of you have probably seen the popular series “Enter the Dojo Show” which not only follows this general concept, but also features glaringly similar demeanor and speech patterns of the main character. What it does not feature is the...

I started the martial arts at a very young age and trained many different styles and systems. The Chinese Warrior arts have a special place in my heart. I practised some Boxing, Taekwondo, Wushu and many others. When i found Ng Ying Kung Fu "Five Animal Kungfu" i felt this art was my new home. I have started Ng Ying Kungfu Apeldoorn in Nederland (Netherlands) and have a very nice school and students. I teach there together with my best friend Sifu Douwe ter Horst.

Tetsuya Higuchi link with Masaaki Hatsumi and Shoto Tanemura presented here is not accurate. While Tetsuya Higuchi has organized several "Ninja Summits" (i.e.: Taikai), Higushi Sensei never was a member of the Bujinkan or a student of Masaaki Hatsumi, or neither he never was a member of the Genbukan or a student of Shoto Tanemura. The link with these two masters of Ninjutsu/Ninpo has been only through the organization of these Taikai (they went over and took part in). Tetsuya Higuchi was a...

The Hangul Gojeon Keomdo Association is headed by Grandmaster Seok Jang Kyun, headquartered in Taegu, South Korea. This system according to Master Seok dates back to being founded by Lee, Yah-Seong (Chosen Synasty). When I studied this system in Taegu from 1995 to 1997, the curriculum was composed of training with the Juckdo (bamboo sword) as the basis of training and further study.
