Description of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido

MALP

Shinshintouitsu Aikido meaning "aikido with mind and body unified" is also known as Ki-Aikido. It is an aikido style developed by Koichi Tohei who believed that "Ki" or "Life Force" (as in its Chinese origin/equivalent "Qi/Chi") is very important when developing the coordination of mind and body. The mind and body unifications are used with the five basic principles of Ki-Aikido.

Body and Mind Unification Principles

  1. Keep one-point
  2. Relax completely
  3. Keep weight underside
  4. Extend Ki

Ki-Aikido Principles

  1. Extend Ki
  2. Know your partner's mind
  3. Respect your partner's Ki
  4. Put yourself in the place of your partner
  5. Perform with confidence

It may be noted that Ki Aikido principles start when body and mind unification principles end. This is to connote that one must first unify the mind and body before proceeding to perform Ki-Aikido techniques.
